What is the USMF SIMU Exam?

At Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy (USMF), medical finals include a rigorous computer-based examination commonly referred to by students as the SIMU Exam.

The exam is administered digitally in computer examination halls. Students are given a fixed time to answer computerized multiple-choice questions covering all core clinical disciplines. The system automatically computes your score, percentage, and corresponding ECTS grade upon final submission.

Question Types & Scoring System

Complement Simplu (CS)

Single Choice Questions

Out of 5 options (A, B, C, D, E), exactly ONE is correct.

  • Correct option selected = Full mark (1 point)
  • Incorrect option selected = 0 points
  • Strategy: Fast recall questions; aim to answer within 25–35 seconds.
Complement Multiplu (CM)

Multiple Choice Questions

Between 2, 3, or 4 options are correct out of 5 options.

  • Scored proportionally based on correct choices checked
  • Checking an incorrect option deducts partial points
  • Strategy: Never guess blindly on CM. Select only what you are sure of.

4 Rules to Score Grade 10 (ECTS A)

1

Simulate Real Computer Test Conditions

Do not just read passive PDF tests on your phone. Practice on a laptop/desktop with a countdown timer to get comfortable reading and clicking options on a screen.

2

Target 90%+ in Practice Runs

USMF assigns Grade 10 (ECTS A) for scores typically at or above 90–95%. Aim to consistently achieve 92%+ on practice runs before test day to build a margin of safety.

3

Learn the 'Complement Multiplu' Traps

CM questions often feature 4 true options and 1 subtle distractor with absolute wording ("always", "never"). Watch out for slight dosage mismatches or reversed disease associations.

4

Review Missed Questions by Subject

Use Dr. Scalpel's Document View and question filter to drill down specifically on questions you get wrong until your error rate drops to zero.

Top Computer Test Mistakes to Avoid

  • Spending more than 2 minutes stuck on a single hard question instead of marking it and returning later.
  • Selecting extra unsure options on CM questions, which erases points gained from correct answers.
  • Accidentally hitting "Submit Exam" before reviewing unanswered questions.
  • Misreading questions containing negative stems like "Except", "Not indicated", or "Incorrect statement".
